- 1 tbsp ground flaxseed
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tbsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp flaky sea salt
- 1 cup unsweetened applesauce room temperature
- ½ cup natural almond butter or peanut butter as a good substitute
- ¼ cup pure maple syrup
- ½ cup avocado oil or melted coconut oil
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ cup dark chocolate chips or semisweet chocolate chips swap milk chocolate chips or white chocolate chips if desired
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8x8-inch baking pan or prepared pan with parchment paper.
Mill oats into oat flour using a digital scale for accuracy.
In a large mixing bowl (or use a stand mixer), whisk together dry ingredients: rolled oats, oat flour, flaxseed, baking soda, cinnamon, and sea salt.
In another large bowl, combine wet ingredients: applesauce, almond butter, maple syrup, avocado oil, and vanilla extract. Stir until smooth and creamy.
Pour wet ingredients into the dry mixture and stir gently until just combined—avoid overmixing. Fold in chocolate chips or other add-ins.
Spread batter evenly into the prepared pan using a spatula.
Bake 25–28 minutes, until the top of the bars is golden brown and the edges pull slightly away from the pan.
Cool completely on a wire rack before slicing into squares.
Optional Add-ins:
¼ cup chopped nuts or seeds (adds protein and chewy oats texture)
1 tbsp chia seeds (extra nutrition)
